PARTNERS WITH GOD

DAY 102 OF 365 IN 2021

We read today about Peter and John returning to the community of believers after being arrested for proclaiming the good news. Their return is marked by a filling with the Holy Spirit which was preceded by a prayer that we ought to take a closer look at.

"And now, Lord, take note of their intimidations intended to silence us. Grant us, Your servants, the courageous confidence we need to go ahead and proclaim Your message, while You reach out Your hand to heal people, enabling us to perform signs and wonders through the name of Your holy servant Jesus."
(Acts 4:29-30, Voice)

Interestingly, the standout word is the one which links the two verses ” WHILE”. Every now and then, we seem to forget that we are in a partnership with God. Ultimately, ‘it is all about Him’, but that in no way removes us from the equation. Why? Because we are ‘His’ – His people, the sheep of his flock, His friends, for he reveals to us all His father has given him. We are coheirs with him, for he drew us up to himself when He was lifted up and we are seated with Him.

The disciples were thus saying: we know God can speak, but since we are made in His image and likeness, we can be His mouthpieces when He gives us boldness. We can’t heal, but we know signs and wonders occur when He stretches forth His hands. And that was their acknowledgement of their partnership with God – a partnership which blossomed with fruits still evident today.

Beloved, it’s about time we realised how effective we will become and how primed we will be for exploits when we join hands with the author of Life.
