DAY 48 OF 365 IN 2021
Matthew 6:2 Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
There are some situations where one requires a yes from another. It could be from a friend, a superior or just another individual. People will therefore praise you for some good things. But there is something about praise: you can be also be praised for pursuing the wrong things.
That is why the simple message this day comes not to butter us up, but to act as a warning. It comes to remind us of a truth we tend to take for granted. It is a message we can summarise as a one-liner worth pondering on:
“Praise by men, does not imply God’s affirmation or approval”.
