THE IDEAL INCUBATOR

DAY 41 OF 365 IN 2021

Mark 7:21 For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill,

An incubator is a medical equipment used to facilitate the ongoing development of a newborn baby, particular those born before term time or with some other complex medical need. It is designed to maintain specific temperatures, humidity, light intensity among others to facilitate the complete development of all vital body organs in the new born.

From the text we read today, we could liken the heart to an incubator because like one, it nurtures and keeps alive whatever is placed in it thus making it available for safe retrieval after a specified period of time. During this time, like an investment, one can expect much higher returns – an improvement in condition at the time of retrieval.

Therefore, regardless of what makes its way into the heart: whether it is a dream, a goal or a plan, or one of the many on the list we read today, we can be confident that it will be nourished towards maturity. So making David’s prayer our own does not seem like a bad decision: “Create in me a clean heart, oh God and renew a right spirit within me”

Beloved, the heart is very good at nurturing things, even subconsciously. You might really have no idea it’s happening before returns pop up.  Anger, hatred, bitterness, evil thoughts – we might think these require some serious intentionality to take root, but don’t be too certain because they can be subtly at work becoming systemically ingrained in a person’s life.

For all you know, you might be telling the truth when you say ‘I didn’t know’. That is why we ought to be mindful of the things that make their way into our hearts for they will be kept well incubated.
