DAY 26 OF 365 IN 2021
Luke 10:3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
I did some permutations trying to establish the feasibility of having lambs and wolves side by side without creating any mayhem because on paper, these two are set down as ‘prey and predator’. Therefore, in their right minds, one should not expect a conflict-free coexistence.
Three ways came to mind:
- The lamb is able to tame the wolf
- The lamb becomes as fierce as the wolf, or the third option
- Keep them separated
In truth, all things being equal, the third option is the most probable for the other two seem like ‘wishful thinking’. Yet, Jesus seems to have no concerns about his dispatch:
‘I send you like lambs among wolves’.
If there is anything to draw from those dispatch orders, it is the reality that we have been deployed into an uncomfortable situation. We have been set in a situation where we cannot afford to be get complacent, get comfortable and let our guards down. Beloved, once we stop watching, we will become prey.
We have been marked for God, but as lambs, we still walk among packs of wolves. The predator, the adversary, keeps roaming the earth seeking for whom to devour (1 Peter 5:8). That beloved, is our cue; our signal to stay on guard and to remain watchful. Our indication to remember that we walk among a pack of ravenous wolves.
However, we cannot abandon our mission because we were deployed “as lambs among wolves”! That suggests our commander has every reason to believe that we are able to thrive even in that environment where fear might seem to be the dominating factor.
