DAY 16 OF 365 IN 2021

Mark 2:14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
What is it about seeing people at post that causes Jesus to pay attention to them? It seems the task in question didn’t matter, as long as there was diligence and consistency in its execution, it drew the attention of heaven.
It so appears that as believers, we have grown up with the image of a God who can ‘take anybody and make them somebody’ that we seem to have forgotten that our God is a God of high standards. In no way does He step out without knowing what He’s looking for.
It is interesting that in the call of five disciples, the two pairs of brothers: Peter, Andrew, James and John as well as Levi, they were called when Jesus “saw them at post”. He saw the four fishermen casting and mending nets, while Levi was at his office desk. What He saw were men diligent in carrying out their responsibilities.
That is one trait Jesus would want in a disciple because upon His departure, He left behind a flock of sheep: a flock that needed tending and feeding. What a calamity it would be if the shepherds were irresponsible! So again I reiterate: don’t walk round with the logic that ‘God just calls and uses anybody’ because He clearly has what He is looking for. The real question to ponder on is “do you have He seeks?”
