1 John 2:3,6 If we obey God's commands, then we are sure that we know him. The one who says that he abides in him must live the same way he himself lived.
Bearing in mind that the Him refers to Jesus, to the question: ‘How do you know that you know Him’, the answer was ‘If you obey his commands’. In other words, it was solely a matter of knowledge. If you expressed desire enough to gain information that another person would not be privy to, then ‘you know about an individual’. If you know God’s precepts, His principles, likes or dislikes among others, that begins to fulfil the requirements of knowing Him.
However, to know that you are in Him, the caveat is different. It goes further beyond knowledge and leans towards a practical and action-oriented dimension. It equates to a way of life. John renders it in these words “you need to walk as he (Jesus) walked or live as he lived” .
To give you a better picture, this means to step into the footprints He has made. To have Christ’s life as the printed map ahead of you, upon which your gaze is perpetually fixed. It means to constantly ask the Jesus question: “what would He do?”

Beloved, our first step in our journey with Jesus is to know Him. However, let’s not end there because beyond knowing Him, there is also the stage of ‘ being in Him’. The requirements of each step may be different but for our growth, we need to dare to meet the cost involved to make this transition
