This has been my first Christmas out of my house but I spent it in hospital in the company of others who would have wished to go home but could not. Let’s share a reflection today then some festive greetings.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
In the amplified version of today’s text, three other words appear in the place of power ‘right, authority and privilege’. It is interesting to note that becoming ‘a child of God’ is not as straightforward as we hoped. Of course all of creation remains God’s handiwork, but for those who fall into the category described in today’s Gospel, ‘children of God’, extra grace is required.
Such require and possess power, authority to live up to their name. Sweetheart, there is nothing ordinary about being a child of God! It is a state that brings with it authority and privileges.
So as we mark the celebration of the birth of Jesus this year, let us be bold to step into shoes that match this status of ours. Let us not celebrate only in food and drink, but with revelation and insight into who we are and what we have.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and may the New year bring winds of renewal.
