2 Timothy 4:3 (MSG) You’re going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food—catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They’ll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages
When we are given the opportunity to create a playlist, we go out of our way to fill it with music we love listening to. Whether on the basis of the genre, rhythm, melody, musical arrangement or even simply, because of the singer. Thus, in one way or another, left to ourselves, what reaches our ears will only be the things that we are actually interested in listening to.
Unfortunately, the word of God does not always express this dimension nor perfectly meets this expectation of ours. Just as there is more than one number on the face of a die, so God’s word has multiple faces. It doesn’t always just tell a love story nor does it only present encouragement, sweet words to caress our itching ears.
Therefore, before you dive into this word with skewed expectation, bear in mind that on many other occasions, this Word cuts right to the heart with stern rebuke and strong warnings, strict corrections and stiff guidelines. It does not make any room for the ‘SWEET NONSENSE’ we often seek to hear, instead, it presents sound doctrine within which frank truths are embedded.
