James 2:15,16 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?
A race car driver may drive really fast, but in a horse race, a trained jockey is a better bet. Likewise, in a boxing ring, words are useless in the same way fists are of no use in a debate. Every tool is only as relevant as the extent to which it meets the demands expected of it. Therefore, if after execution, the impact is zero, then a tool is not fit for purpose.
Hence, the opening header- every tool has its place. Encouragement, giving, teaching and every other tool given for the growth of the Christian have a time when they are most effective. In some circumstances, they are deemed ineffective because the wrong tool is selected for a job. Like the example given by James, ‘providing encouragement when giving is needed’ yields minimal impact.
Beloved, efficiency is enhanced by accuracy thus, the choice of tool for any job must be guided by the specificity of intended need. Don’t embark on a trial and error marathon to determine what tools are required in a given scenario. Let us work towards accuracy because only then will actual needs be met.
