Whenever a celebrity or sports person is involved in some kind of ‘social scandal’ that affects their positive image to the rest of society, the very first thing we often hear about is the withdrawal of sponsorships and endorsements by brands, companies and individuals. It is almost as though the facts of being associated with a person or idea that is no longer a beaming example becomes a NO-GO area.
Association happens to be the core of today’s Gospel text. In lieu of the gracious words which Jesus’ spoke, an association was made between him and his mother. In addition, He on the other hand goes further to establish another association between hearing the Word, acting on it and true blessedness.
So therefore at present and in the days that follow, with what or who will you be associated with?
Others make associations on the basis of what they perceive with their senses. You may not have a say about that, but your action can usually shape these associations. What you are associated with is usually not a product of coincidence, you are personally involved.
