Reference text: Numbers 6:22-27

Numbers 6:23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel,

On the first day of the year, our text for reflection are the words of God teaching his people how to receive a guaranteed blessing: ‘this is how you are to put my name on the people and I will bless them’- that was a plan. The message may have been written to Israel, but we also stand as recipients of the promises of God hence, the great start he wants for us.

As I thought about those words, the simple question that came to mind was: how are you starting the new year? God begins with us by guaranteeing a blessing, a good foundation on which we can build, so how are YOU starting the new year? Are you beginning the year in anger? Expecting chaos and Crisis? Or are you positioning yourself to tap into the guaranteed riches of God?

Have you made any resolutions? Any planning as to how things will work? Have you pictured how things can be done differently in the new year? How you can love better, live better, be better while preparing to be the best version of you? This may already sound like a cliche, but ‘how are you beginning this new year?’ My dear, take a seat, pick a piece of paper and a pen and write down something- that plan, blueprint, or idea.

Sweetheart, don’t dance through the year with no plan, don’t waltz through this year also on the wings of coincidences and luck. There is something about writing that appears to translate fiction into reality: ‘And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it’ (Habakkuk 2:2); that is what we also ought to do. Let this year not whisk by while you journey with no plan.

Remember # God will guide, so make preparations for the year, don’t rely on luck and coincidences.
