Reference text: Luke 21:34-36
Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
When one is able to schedule an important appointment that is inflexible and actually difficult to get, the night preceding is often characterised by a level of anxiousness and associated difficulties with sleeping. Probably, out of fear of missing that opportunity or the stress of having to go through the whole setting up process again. This happens to even the most courageous of us.
Therefore today, we are reminded of a reason not to immerse ourselves into a life of pleasure and cares of this life, lest we forget that there is a date coming for which we have an unmissable appointment with our maker. To make things interesting, that date is unknown. You can therefore imagine the amount of effort it takes to prepare for an inspection on a day you haven’t even being told- it becomes a daily routine of staying prepared.
That is the call sounded out today: always be ready. I know this sounds like a military jargon calling soldiers to be on high alert, ready to defend their nations, but it is the same message to us -always be ready. There are times every now and then when we lose concentration hence, have our guard down. But once we regain our composure, we ought to remember that the message remains unchanged- stay ready.
Remember # don’t get distracted by the many things that seek your attention, but be ready at any time.
