Matthew 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
A rendition of second half of the verse above in another version sounds more like a tongue twister it reads ‘but do not do as they do for they do not do what they say’. However imaginative and beautiful this sounds, we cannot turn our eyes away from the central point of the message : action + words.
Jesus in his address, urged the people to submit to the teachings of the scribes and Pharisees yet ignore their actions as they were not worth imitating. In his eyes, their words and actions were contradictory as they taught one thing and lived something else.
This foresight given to us is critical if we are to live successfully as true believers because we ought to live lives that can tell others to ‘imitate’. Our teaching of others what to do and not doing same ourselves may not be a big deal elsewhere but in the Lord’s vineyard, it cannot be ignored; your actions must align with what you say and believe.
My dear, get your act together as you could confuse others if there is clearly no correlation between these two critical areas of your life: what you say and what you do. It’s about time you adopted a single minded approach: say what you do and do what you say because many are have their eyes on you.
Remember # you have to live what you preach.
