Reference text: Matthew 25:1-13
Reading the parable of the ten virgins today, the message coming to mind was: “we focus so much on what is visible, forgetting that what is seen, is often powered by what is unseen”. The visible light from the lamps were provided by the oil hidden in its storage.
Many of us automatically expect the front end to respond despite no investment made in the back end. Those virgins who were deemed ready were those who had both the physical lamp and back up oil ready to power their lamps.
We therefore see a two part process where the absence of the hidden phase undermines the visible:
beauty without character,
success without humility,
power without prayer, or
action without wisdom
You cannot ignore what is seen, but without the appropriate foundations which are unseen, the visible may not thrive.
