Job 19:25 But as for me, I know that my redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.
The Hebrew words translated “I know” occurs in various forms in the old testament about 942 times. While it means different things, it is the same root word used in the verses ‘and they knew they were naked (Gen 3:7) and “Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain (Gen 4:1)”. It therefore translates beyond scientific or factual knowledge.
We can think about today’s passage in these two steps:
1. What do you know?
Answer: I know that my Redeemer lives
2. Your Redeemer lives, And so what?
The answer to this second question is the missing layer.
It is not just the information you have, but what that knowledge does to you or equips you to do. What does it do to your faith? Are you challenged to know more? Encouraged to trust more? Or Empowered to do more? We know you know, so what? It’s time to step past simply knowing because there is no profiting at that stage.
