THE BLESSING OF THE LORD

The first day of the year comes with the declaration of blessing which God asked Aaron and his sons to pronounce on Israel in the book of Numbers chapter 6. Hearing that prayer today, I asked “on what basis do they hold?” My mind was drawn to scripture buttressing those pronouncements and I share them with you so we have firm assurance to receive these blessings this new year.

May the Lord bless you and keep you" (vs 24)

It is in blessing I will bless you, and it is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich and adds no sorrow to it. It is He the Lord who gives his angels charge over you lest you dash your foot against a stone. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so does the Lord encamp around you and like Saint Paul, we know whom we have believed, and are persuaded that He is able to keep that which is committed to him against the day (Gen 22:17, Prov 10:22, Psalm 90:11-12, Ps 125:2, 2 Tim 1:12)

"May the Lord let his face shine on you and be gracious to you" (vs 25)

Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For the path of righteous is as shining light, it shines ever brighter unto a perfect day. It is because kings come to the brightness of your rising and God is able to make all grace abound towards you (Prov 4:18, Isaiah 60:1-3, 2 Cor 9:8, Dan 6:3)

"May the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace"(vs 26)

For God is able to make you increase in favour and stature, and to be preferred above many. That same God of peace himself, gives you peace in everything and in every way and He will keep in perfect peace him whose eyes are stayed on him. (Isaiah 26:3, 2 Thes 3:16, Luke 2:52)

That is the blessing, and a fraction of scriptures that guarantees them. God is not a man that he should lie, so when he said ” in blessing I will bless you”, He means exactly that (Gen 22:17). Walk in blessing this year.
