Reference text: 2 Kings 5:14-17
1. We can ride on the shoulder of others to cause us to see further, but don’t be deceived, the experiences of those shoulders you stand on are not your own. They can give you a glimpse into the possibilities ahead, but you have to make the journey yourself to arrive.
There is only so far that the faith of others can get you. If for nothing, they can invite you into the economy of God. But beyond that, any further advances must be made by you. Like Naaman, you have to arrive at your “Now I know” for that is the only way to mature and gain standing with God.
2. The language of scripture is very important, every preposition or punctuation has earned its place. The Gospel acclammation from 1st Thessalonians 5:18 reads “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Notice the choice of preposition “IN” and not “FOR”.
That is because not everything that happens in our lives has the signature of God on it, the enemy also makes his play.
Therefore, you cannot be thankful FOR everything, but you can be thankful IN everything; you can remain thankful as a posture regardless of what might be going on around you. Beloved, gratitude is a state we ought to retain because that is the desire of God for us. It reveals to Him that we notice what he has done and we are convinced that he is working even on those things we cannot see.
An ungrateful heart is a dangerous heart to have. So remember to say thank you, and make sure you mean it.
