HAVE YOU NOT KNOWN?

Whenever a statement begins with the words ‘did you know that’, it is likely indicative of a fact or truth one might never have been exposed to. This can usually have a profound impact on the hearer. Today, the prophet Isaiah speaks in a like manner and what follows were a range of attributes of God often overlooked or not harnessed enough.

Isaiah 40:28-29 unveils these “Have you not known? Have you not heard, that

1. the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?
That means ‘the all sufficient one, timeless and able to call everything out of nothing, does not fall within the same limits of exhaustion as man.’

2. there is no searching of his understanding.
His ways remain above ours, and so are his thoughts. No matter how hard we try to, we won’t ever fully understand all his dealings with us. There will be gaps only He can plug.

3. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
In the words of Saint Paul, ‘Our sufficiency is of God’. For the man who thinks he has strength, has not really known strength until all his efforts have proven futile in the face of a challenge. It is only at these times that mercy speaks – granting grace to stand where our strengths fail.

These you have to know – not intellectually, but also experientially.
