FAR BEYOND THE ACTION

Reference text: 1 Kings 17:10-16

The Word of God is indeed creative, but when it meets a vessel ready to follow through actions in obedience, a true formidable force emerges. As I read through the account between Elijah and the widow at Zarephath, my mind was cast to the instructions Elijah gave ‘prepare a morsel of bread for me first’. This she did without much contention.

The widow was fed at the point of her obedience to the word of God because her actions had one outcome:  ‘they guaranteed three and a half years of provision for her entire household’.

Every action, however little then, of obedience or disobedience, carries consequences. Sometimes, well beyond the moment and action itself. So what should influence much of our decision should not just be the choices themselves, but a thorough exploration of related implications and consequences.

Beloved,

when the actions of a man are moving in the same direction as the hand of God and the Word of God, even the smallest actions can cause huge shifts.

Ask David how a stone fell a giant and the widow of Zarephath how a handful of flour and a jar of oil lasted over 3 years.
