DAY 314

Luke 16:3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
One verse from today’s text that stands out are the internal considerations of the manager whose master had called him in to render accounts based on a complaint. The charge was ‘wasting of his master’s possession’. It is interesting how swiftly the master responded, almost as though he had no room for explanations and excuses.
‘What do I hear about you? Come and render accounts you are fired from your post'(16:2). How much swiftly would God move if we, who have been made the custodians of His wealth of resources, waste them? The time, talents, gifts, graces, and even life itself? How are we managing these?
One more thing worth highlighting was the mindset the man showed, something we all ought to desire. He had no time to wallow in pity and misery, the die was cast and his job already on the line anyway so he thought ‘what should I do?’ He had begun looking forward, towards others doors knowing that one was closing.
Often, we can get hang up on what’s passing that we forget to move forward ourselves. Regardless of what doors are being closed, there are others to enter in. So instead of simply lamenting and wallowing in self pity, the question to ask first is ‘what shall I do? Then get doing.
