HEARING ALONE DOES NOT PROFIT

DAY 259

Luke 6:46 Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

There are many who hear the same words of encouragement or advice all year round and yet at the end of everything, it seems they heard nothing.

Using an analogy, Jesus in the Gospel presents two kinds of men: one who hears the word and does them, and the second who hears and does not do it. The difference between the two is really night and day because while the former built to withstand the floods and winds, the latter lost all they had built in one full sweep.

So here is the message: “Just because you have read or heard, does not mean you have profited. It is the obedience and courage to engage what you have heard that profits.”

Until what you hear is accompanied by actions of obedience, sponsored by faith, one might only see the word of God as a powerless collection of  stories.

However, encounter a man who has made the word a lived reality, and you will have found yourself a champion and a wonder.
