DAY 221

Numbers 13:2 Send out for yourself men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each of their fathers’ tribes send one man who is a leader among them.”
Spying is a method of secretly obtaining facts and details about a person, place or organisation through careful observation. The information obtained through spying may therefore, be positive or negative, include strengths and weaknesses as well as highlight causes for celebration or concern.
On the basis of the job description the men sent to spy out the land of Canaan received, their report included all the crucial details spies were expected to present. They even brought back evidence of physical fruits from the land. However, their reports displeased the Lord so much that an entire generation.
Why? “Because the report the spies brought back planted an unyielding seed of unbelief in the hearts of all citizens. We would note that the men selected to do the spying were no ordinary men, they were leaders ib their tribes. These were men who carried influence and whose opinion had direct impact on the responses of their various tribes. Yet, in their report, they seemed to forget about their place as leaders.
They gave such a bad report of the land, highlighting the enormity and impossibilities of entering the land of Caanan that it broke the Spirit of the entire Nation of Israel. Caleb and Joshua’s encouragement could do nothing but hit a brick wall of absolute fear and unbelief. Beloved, from a place of influence, how you deliver information affects the response of others. So be careful in choosing the words you use.
