WINNING BEFORE THE FIGHTING STARTS

DAY 180

Reference text: Acts 12:1-7

Whenever we read this story in Acts 12, we cannot help but jump straight to the story of the divine intervention that led to Peter’s escape from prison while under the guard of 16 soldiers. It seems as though we can clap for the church because they prayed earnestly. Yet, we could see this today from a different light and say ‘the church could have done better’.

In the case of James, there is no record of action taken, but with Peter, they prayed earnestly. While this caused a move of God, prayer was made after the problem had already emerged. The church was therefore ‘reactive’ and a reactive church will keep going through cycles of pain, problems and disappointment; and so will keep petitioning God for Interventions. The same is true for all of us.

Therefore, what we ought to mature into the realm of pro-activeness. A realm where with the help of the Holy Spirit, and armed with insight, foresight and tact, we can put measures in place before a situation spills over to become a problem.

Here is some truth: ‘Reactivity might win the fight because an effective plan can be devised during the battle. However, proactivity can win the battle before it even begins’.
