TOUCH A LIFE

DAY 12

Leprosy was always one ailment that resulted in an alienation from the rest of society. So extreme that any leper had to find lodging outside the walls of the main camp. There would equally and literally be alarm bells to alert anyone that there was a leper in the vicinity. Therefore, the action of Jesus is not as simple as we read.

Having compassion for the leper was the start, but it is the follow through action that is worth our review. We see an intention that was followed by an action.

"And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean"(Mark 1:40)

Lepers were not to be touched!  They were to be dealt with from a distance, but Jesus broke boundaries and physically touched one. For us, we may not be surrounded by lepers as in the days of Jesus, but there are a myriad of people in our vicinity whom society deals with from a distance.

This has nothing to do with taking caution in a dangerous world, but there are many lives ‘we can touch’. Some with our words, others with our substance and even others, with the example of the lives we live. A touch will always leave a mark, so let’s take advantage of opportunities to touch lives when we can.
