DAY 10
Mark 1:22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
There were many scribes and Pharisees in the days of Scripture, but very few had their actual names recorded – Nicodemus, who came to Jesus by night and Paul’s instructor, Gamaliel. On every other occasion, they were all referred to as a group: as ‘scribes or pharisees’ because there was nothing distinct about them. Those who stood out had all done things beyond the ordinary
“A new Teaching with authority’- that was the conclusion drawn from Jesus’ session in the synagogue and it was on the basis of this conclusion that His fame spread abroad. His audience could draw a distinction between his message and that of the scribes because “he did not teach as they did”.
Often, we are tempted to mimic the actions and choices of those we know to ‘have results’. Yet, we fail to understand the dynamics of their individual dealings with God and with men. No two engagements are the same thus embracing your own unique situation and what they have been given is crucial to standing out.
We cannot, and should not resemble one another in the execution of our tasks. Distinctions have to become clear for it is only in our individual uniqueness that particular expressions of God’s strength is made manifest. Knowing who you are and what you have is what becomes the foundation for every expansion.
