Isaiah 30:19 For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you.
You might think every sound would attract attention, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. There are some sounds a person can become used to or desensitised to. Therefore, while the same sound will evoke a response of joy, fear, anger or be a call to action for one person, to another, it might pass as just noise and so not warrant any response.
In the majesty of God, we might think every sound we make is acknowledged and registered, yet we read today ‘He is gracious at the sound of your cry and when He hears it, he answers us. Thus, to elicit the help of God, first there are certain sounds that have to be heard from the one who believes.
The Psalmist prayed “let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be, acceptable in thy heart Oh Lord.” Therefore, not every single sound from you, beloved, will elicit help from God. Harsh? Perhaps. However, we ought to arrive at the point where our cries, whether in heart or on our lips, are actually prayers.
Complaints and moans, unfortunately don’t carry as much weight as we might think. It takes real prayer, sounds that carry weight, to access help from God.
