1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
Whenever a building contract is being given out, even though there are different areas like electrical and plumbing which may require specialists, the preference would often be for the same builder to complete the entire structure from the foundations to the roof.
There is a significant risk associated with changing teams part through the project, particularly the foundation stage because critical information might not have been handed down which can affect what is built on the said foundation. So Paul using the phrase ‘a skilled master builder’ to describe a situation where the foundation is so laid out that any other person is able to continue the build.
I thought about this and wondered if we still strive to also attain the status of ‘skilled master builders’. We would rather prefer to establish a foundation where without us, no one can complete the structure because that is what we think establishes our value. We aim to become the only pieces with all the answers and without whom everything should fall apart.
That beloved, is just pride and immaturity. The work of God, and even men, need not be hindered by our absence. Rather, we ought to strive to become ‘skilled master builders’ where continuity can be sustained.
