LOVE HAS NO EXPECTATIONS

Luke 14:12-13 When you give a dinner or a banquet, don't invite your friends and family and relatives and rich neighbors. If you do, they will invite you in return, and you will be paid back. When you give a feast, invite the poor, the paralyzed, the lame, and the blind

When we take Jesus words in a literal context, He basically says ‘every celebration of yours should have none of your loved ones in it. Open your door instead to strangers in need. It will be interesting to see how many feasts would be celebrated along these guidelines. Knowing Jesus then, we ought to dive deeper to see a meaning hidden beneath the surface.

Giving has for generations, been associated with reception. Therefore , we give always expecting something in return. It is almost a precondition that guides our gift thus before extending any hand we calculate ‘what is in it for us?’ For if I gain nothing, then my giving serves no purpose. Likewise, whenever we receive anything, we believe something will be expected of us later. It is against these mindsets that Jesus spoke His words today.

For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son- He loved, so He gave. His giving laid no expectation on man – our Yes or No was left entirely up to us. Beloved,
Love gives without having expectations! The moment one attaches expectations, it becomes an exchange.
