Job spoke thus "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Therefore I retract my words, and I repent in dust and ashes”(Job 42:5-6)
Whenever we hear about something or someone, there is a real potential that we form some kind of opinion about them. We could end up then forming very strong convictions solely by virtue of what we hear. But today we are reminded ‘we need more than hearing’.
We need to rise to a higher level where we do not form our convictions solely by the hearing of the ear, but also by seeing with our eyes. The latter is a step up as it ensures that our convictions are founded on real and personal encounters, not just the stories of others.
When those foundations are established, it takes a lot more to shake our resolve. Beloved, stronger foundations make for steadier structures. On our walk with God and with men, let us not become comfortable staying on one plane of knowing – let us rather strengthen our foundations in knowledge of Him.
