Job 1:11 But put forth Your hand now and touch (destroy) all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face.”
We are people who develop a love or strong like for the things we acquire: a new house, a particular piece of clothing, jewellery, or stationery, even a particular appliance in our kitchen. Such was the thinking as satan thought he knew man so well that he could predict where their heart would lie.
He was certain that should God dare to take away any or all of the material things Job possessed, he would consequently curse God to his face. Yet, the outcome was very different. Job indeed does lose everything he owned: right from people to even animals, but he responds as follows “Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God (vs 22).
So this is for our consideration: if we were also tested using the very same premise, how would we fair? Many would probably say ‘I wouldn’t fair as well as Job did’. The reason is this “we have fallen so in love with the things the creator has given that we have forgotten about the creator”
We love things more than its giver and source, hence this is the message for us today “that our love for the creator exceeds our love the things we have been given.
