PRAYER POWER
James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
In a few short sentences, prayer is presented as a one-stop shop that ought to be the first port of call for anyone afflicted.
From Saint Luke’s Gospel 18:1, we read ‘ And He spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint’. This further reinforces then that the recommendation is first for our knees to hit the ground and our voices raised to God before anything else. Why? Because the ‘the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous makes tremendous power available'(Js. 5:16)
Using incidencies in scripture, if the efficacy and capacity of prayer to ignite and initiate seismic shifts is what you seek to verify, the words offer a peek: “
the potency of prayer has subdued the strength of fire, it has brindled the rage of lions, hushed anarchy to rest, appeased the elements, burst the chains of death, expanded the gates of heaven and rescued cities from destruction”.
St John Chrysostom
Whenever then you have an opportunity to pray, whether for a few seconds, a minute or hours; take up that opportunity because prayer power should never be underestimated.
