DAY 284 OF 365 IN 2021

LOOK UP AT THE SKY
Luke 11:29 Now as the crowds were increasing [in number], He began to say, “This [present] generation is a wicked generation; it seeks a sign (attesting miracle), but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah [the prophet].
In today’s Gospel, Jesus was preaching, and the crowds began to expand exponentially. It would therefore have been ideal in the circumstances to reveal information that would keep His audience around.
But what does Jesus do? He waited for a huge audience only to refer to the lot as “an evil generation”- what a good way to lose your audience! His timing seemed off the target by miles, or so it seemed.
However, here is the drill- what we may call ‘bad timing’ is actually perfect timing according to God’s timeline. That is the exact nature of the contrast between God and man – a further establishment of this word “As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above yours and my thoughts above yours”.
It takes no genius to look up the sky to realise the extent of the difference God was making reference to, and all that makes perfect sense when we consider the context of today’s Gospel. So beloved, when you are tempted to think ‘God’s probably got this wrong,’ raise your head and look up at the sky’.
