DAY 189 OF 365 IN 2021

THERE IS NOTHING RANDOM
Reference text: Genesis 45:1-5
One of the things I have come to appreciate is how sequences of events, or actions which may seem very random all come clicking today in a light bulb moment leaving you surprised and saying ‘so that was why!’
As students, there were some modules we just studied at school not really out of interest but necessity, some people we only helped once or even stayed away from. Some relationships we did not persevere with and choices we made that seemed unrelated to anything. It is only later along the line that we realise the place of these subtle and seemingly unrelated choices in the grande scheme of things.
Encounters, experiences and lessons
may appear very random and not fit anywhere in the jigsaw puzzle of our lives at the moment. The reason for this is simple: ‘the image we have in mind, the incomplete picture’. However, if there is a key lesson to take from the story of Joseph, it is the fact that in the picture of God, every experience, every lesson, every encounter has a fitting place in the puzzle of our lives.
It is only with time that this spot is revealed. As Joseph told his brothers
'do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life (Genesis 45:5).
All the things that seem to have no place, are contributing to the writing of a story that is your very own. When the time is right, all the random pieces of the puzzle will fit together because there is actually nothing random with God – there is always a script.
