DAY 187 OF 365 IN 2021

WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
Genesis 32:27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
Any time I read today’s text, a message years past on the dominion of man on the earth comes to mind. Jacob to contend with a being for hours without been defeated requires more than just brute strength or endurance. However, it is worth remembering that at creation, dominion on earth was given to man, and that was a deciding factor in this wrestling match up.
Regardless, what stands out was the one question we see asked both ways: ‘what is your name?’ The origin of that question lies in what a name carries. In effect, a name was what God really gave to the people of Israel. Whenever he showed up, He introduced himself with a name, as He gave to Moses the name ‘I AM’. Even when Israel was to be blessed, these were the words God spoke after the blessings were pronounced “This is how you are to call my name on the people of Israel and I will bless them”
There is a lot in a name: it is certainly more than a just a random combination of letters – it carries identity and embodies personality. A name carries weight and also deep meaning. So whatever your name [label , tag, identifier] may be, like Jacob, you may only be one encounter away from a change of name. And out of curiosity, what name of God do you know?
