There are solemn blessings pronounced by the priest at Mass on Easter Sunday. Personally, I look forward to those prayers because they contain images of the very heart of God towards us: who He intends us to be and where He wants us to stand. This year, it is laid on my heart to also share this prayer with you – not to draw your attention to the delicate play on words, but to very desire of God for us.

So today, as we read each paragraph of those Solemn blessings, let every Amen that follows be a resounding one which brings you into agreement with the words in the prayer as we journey on through life.

May Almighty God bless you through today’s Easter Solemnity and, in his compassion, defend you from every assault of sin’

And may He, who restores you to eternal life in the Resurrection of his Only Begotten, endow you with the prize of immortality.

Now the days of the Lord’s Passion have drawn to a close, may you who celebrate the gladness of the Paschal Feast come with Christ’s help, and exalting in spirit, to those feasts that are celebrated in eternal joy.

May the eyes of our understanding be opened to see not just words, but the heart of God behind those words.
Christ is risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Happy Easter beloved.
