DAY 76 OF 365 IN 2021

The words of a song were on my lips this morning upon rising hence, thus I reflected on a couple of its verses which I would like to share with you:
How sweet the name of Jesus sounds, In a believer's ear!
It soothes our sorrows, heals our wounds, And drives away our fear
It makes the wounded spirit whole
And calms the troubled breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest.
The sound of the name Jesus, is evocative only in a particular kind of ear – that of the believer, for the same name would have a different effect in another ear. Why? Because the believer is able to hear more than just the ‘literal’ sound of the name, but can associate with it a beauty, a person, a reverence and a presence.
It is this combination of “evocatives” that is able to soothe sorrows and heal wounds, drive away fear and make a wounded spirit whole. Beyond these, the name of Jesus should evoke the multifaceted dimension of His image as the third verse reads:
O Jesus, shepherd, guardian, friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.
Beloved, whether by prayerfully reading, singing, or listening, take a few minutes today to listen to this song for if in one name, all these can be associated, then indeed that name ought to sound sweet in our ears.
