DON’T WAGER GOD’S FRIENDSHIP

Tuesday: February 25, 2020

James 4:4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

Whether we call it reasonable, calculated betting or even a safe wager, if left with a choice in any bet, many people will only wager what they are willing and able to do without.
And for all intents and purposes, friendship with God is not one of those things you want to set as a wager.

Today, we are presented something that should not be considered up for trade in any respect, our relationship with God. It is not even meant to be at the discussion table or simply, do not wager that in a bet. Opting to wager God’s friendship in favour of gaining brownie points with the world only leads to one outcome: enmity with Him.

This defeats the very purpose of Christ’s sacrifice- to restore our friendship with God. There will be moments when we might think there is more to gain by closely aligning ourselves with the world, even if it’s only just for a brief moment. But in those moments, we still have a lot to lose for we are separated from our one true love.
