REFERENCE: Matthew 11:28-30
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
After the hustle and fatigue of any day, we gravitate towards places of rest: our homes or a place to sit just to recoup our strength before doing anything else. However, these places of rest are not just any locations because for many of us, where we have our rest need to have a particular ambience – a stillness and a peace that allows us to relax and rest well.
To achieve this, we tend to choose our own places of rest and when we find one that works for us, that becomes our go to place. It is however, worth noting that many places of rest do not move, it is the seeker of rest who finds them and moves to them. Hence, the invitation of Jesus ‘Come to me all who are weary and tired, and I will give you rest’.
Beloved, to get rest we have to approach the place of rest. Today, Jesus presents himself as an open rest house with no obstacles standing between its patrons and the place of rest. Therefore, sin should not hold you back from accepting this invitation because it was for that very reason He offered His life on the cross.
The burdens of guilt, shame, anger or pride are not obstacles that ought to stand in the way of our approach into the rest offered by Jesus. So my dear, the invitation remains extended out to you: come and rest. He awaits your response for He is ready and waiting for you, arms open wide. But will you accept this invitation? Will you say yes and thereby offload all that weight on your shoulders at the feet of the master?
