Matthew 7:26, 27And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
In plain terms, it isn’t that building a house on sand is not possible, it isn’t ‘recommended’ because there is another way – a better alternative. The reason is when one is investing in a house, the first priority is longevity – is this property firmly established enough to stand the forces that will fight against it? Clearly, although it may succumb to something, the one with a potential to stand firm the longest will be the preferred option.
A house can thus be built on sand, but it will only be firm in the face of some trials, it will survive a shorter duration in compared to one built on solid rock. Hence, the proposition is to build on a rock. Today’s message is this: building on sand is good, but choosing to do so on rock is an even better option.
Sweetheart, we may know many good ways, but in some cases, we have to find a better way.
