From a celebration of Saints, there is a celebration of souls because today is all souls day. It is a day to remember those who have gone before us in this life and are no longer with us. But as I reflected on the title, ‘All souls day’, I thought ‘if the church has set aside a day to celebrate remember the dead, then the remaining 364 days of the year are to remember the living’.
I don’t know if this means anything to you but think about it. Remembering the dead is done from memory, but for the living, every act of remembering has the potential to be a game changer. Through scripture, whenever God remembered any person, their story changed for the best. When He remembered Noah, Abraham and Rachel, great things followed (Gen 8:1,19:29,30:22).
Beloved, you have the ability to remember – to look around you and identify those around of whom you can be of help. You should not keep putting off the opportunities to do so for it might be too late later. You may be celebrating all souls day today, but don’t let your next celebration of this day be one with regret because you celebrate a loved one from memory when you could have remembered them while they lived.
Do good for people while they are alive for when they are gone, there is little left to do.
