UPDATE YOUR CONTENT

Psalms 98:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.

When a song is released in its early days, many tend to have a habit of playing it over and over again to soak it in. After this initial hurdle, interest in the song often dies down. In the Psalm today, we are invited to sing unto the Lord, not just any song, but a new song.

That reminded me of a very popular song:
‘Sing unto the Lord a new song
Sing unto the Lord all the earth
Wonderful, wonderful is the Lord
Oh Hallelujah, the Lord is king’

That song in itself is an old song, so what does ‘a new song’ in a rather old Psalm suggest? One statement: ‘update your content with God’. Whenever I travel on the tube and hear the same announcements over and over again, it gets boring. Thus, I am happy when I hear something different.

Sweetheart, our lives and the things God does in them are hardly the same each day. Every single moment is different from the next, so that suggests we also need to come up with updated content. With up to date praise, renewed enthusiasm, ever evolving thanksgiving and revitalised desires for service. We need to come up with new things because each day is different.

Sing a new song, yes! It may be the same song and the same words spoken but from a new perspective or from a reinvigorated heart. Beloved, God appreciated newness and freshness, hence His invitation for continual renewal of our minds. This is a daily task- to embrace newness in honour of God.

I implore you therefore to sing a new song each day.
