Reference text: Jonah 3:1-10
Jonah 3:5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
What has now become a common thing is that people will rather believe everything but God. Does this sound like a wild idea? Even bordering along the lines of absurd? Well, if we looked around us and thought about it, we would come fairly close to making this observation ourselves also.
I highlight this today because we are more likely to believe men of God, the people around and even the situations we go through, but not God Himself.
When Jonah walked through Nineveh with the warning He had received, it seemed the people did not even notice the person proclaiming the message. For they could have believed the ‘words of Jonah’ or even ‘the man Jonah’ which would have been recorded accordingly.
Yet, scripture records: ‘the people believed God.’ Beloved, those citizens teach us something today: that even though it is sometimes to veer off and focus our attention on side issues, let us look at and to God, who is the real deal.
