GOD IS NOT SURPRISED

Reference text: Matthew 8:23-27

Matthew 8:23,24 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.

When sailors expect a storm at sea in the course of their journey, they put plans in place to deal with them far ahead of time. However, when a storm creeps up on them like it happened to Jesus and the disciples, reaction can be a bit all over the place. One doesn’t really need to see over and beyond to realise that the occupants of the boat were not ready for the storm that hit- the disciples were running around for answers while Jesus slept.

Surely, He would not have been allowed to nap if a storm was expected, but as we notice in the Gospel, this storm they faced came up suddenly and unexpectedly. That my dear, is something that could happen in our lives – sometimes we are faced with massive unpredictabilities, huge twists and unexpected changes. Some are so profound that they even threaten to crash down even the most grounded of establishments.

Beloved, there are times when we will clearly be ill-prepared for the things that come our way. We may expect life to follow a straight path, but often there are twists, turns, loops and bumps that challenge our journey. Every now and then, life throws a question our way, the answer to which we have never considered. But we can be sure that while we are likely to go pale with mouths gaping in surprise, God unfazed because they are not surprises to Him. So be assured – God is not as surprised as you are.
