Reference text: John 1:19-28
John 1:22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
John in the Gospel today appeared to be playing hard to get. He was asked one question: ‘who are you?’ However, his response offered an answer to a different question: ‘who I am not’. It appeared a suitable response, but it did not answer the question he was asked. I am happy with the attitude of those sent to question him because they refused to leave until they got an answer to their question.
They just could have gone with any information they received, after all, they were just messengers to whom the information being sought would be of no real use. But they kept pushing until he gave the answer ‘I am the voice of one crying in the desert.’ That is in contrast to the attitude of those who do not give off their best because they have nothing to gain from a specific venture assigned them.
So therefore, we have something to comtemplate on – how do we handle the things that do not belong to us? Do we give our best in tasks assigned or do we just act indifferent with no real enthusiasm?
Remember # stay faithful to your assigned tasks for you have been trusted with it.
