Reference text: Ephesians 3:14-21
Ephesians 3:17-18 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
During my last holiday, I had a mixed bag of experiences, but I always recall advocating strongly about one particular destination to others in the words ‘you have to visit there yourself’. This was because that experience was unique, it was such that as much as I tried, I could not find the right words to describe it. Thus, for anyone seeking to better understand, my suggestion was to find out for yourself.
When I read today’s text, what dawned on me was ‘the only way the love of God will ever make sense to anybody is when it is experienced on a very personal level. Otherwise, living off the love stories others tell will only keep one in a’ pseudo-topia’ : a place that only exists as a possibility or figment of imagination, when it can become a real and actual occurrence.
In the words of Saint Paul, he hinted that a sure way to gain an understanding of the extent of God’s love is first, to be rooted and established in love. One’s feet have to be firmly planted in love before a comprehension of the love of God can even begin. ‘Without love, one cannot understand Love’: that is the summary of today’s text, and what better way to plant one’s feet in love than with an experience so personal, that one cannot help but desire to share and want more.
My dear, the way to love is love. We are God’s people borne out of an Everlasting love: a love that is a part of our recreated human spirit. Though sometimes, this love seems farther away, if only we would draw closer, if only we would plant our feet firmly in His love that surrounds, then we will begin to understand what God’s love really entails. And trust me, from a personal experience, even if it takes time to fully wrap our minds around it, that Love is worth the wait.
Remember # you can be told about God’s love, but when it is experienced personally, nothing tops that.
