Reference text: 1 Kings 18:20-39
1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
In the most popular open ended questions, the responses are usually one of two options, nothing more: yes or no, true or false, agree or disagree. Hence, these do not give one the option to have more alternatives from which to make a pick.
Israel was questioned by Elijah to confirm their stand and to make up their minds: God or Baal. Though the people could offer no response then, after seeing the prophets of Baal cry out hopelessly to a god so deeply asleep that no amount of shouting and bleeding could solicit a response; and Yahweh, who answered by fire; their minds were quickly made up and certainty was established.
Beloved, sometimes what you need to move forward with a particular agenda is a resolve made up because when torn in two minds, you are never likely to give your all to whatever venture you set your hands to. The prophets of Baal may not have had a very good day today, and even though Elijah was being sarcastic and mocking them by telling them to shout louder because Baal was probably asleep, they responded positively to this and got more into their act.
They got no response, yet you cannot discredit their resolve because if pressing on from morning till evening is not a firm resolve and a made up mind, then what could be? My dear, if you still are in two minds about something, it may be time to seek more information and to clarify your position because without that, you will always be tossed out and about, to and fro.
Remember # don’t stay in two minds because “a double minded person, receives nothing from the Lord” .
