Reference text : Psalm 97

Psalms 97:1 The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

We can invite others to party with us if we won the lottery, were getting married to the person of our dreams or landed a dream job; those are popular reasons that call for rejoicing. However, the Psalmist today invites us to rejoice for a rather peculiar reason: ‘because the Lord reigns’. This can qualify as one of the rather classic ‘so what’ moments hence my question was : why is that something worth jumping about over?

The message translation reads: “God rules: there’s something to shout over! On the double, mainlands and islands—celebrate!” Emphasis on the fact that the sole reason for celebrations remains ‘because God reigns’. This may not make initial sense but any one who has watched ‘Bruce Almighty’ will have had a gist of what the world would turn out if a ‘human’ was in charge of managing all of it for just a couple of hours. Hence, we can go dancing because God is in charge.
My dear, because God reigns, we can look forward to tomorrow with excitement and hope.

Because God reigns, we can trust that all His plans concerning us will be executed at perfect times.

Because God reigns, we will never have to carry more than we can handle and we will never be overwhelmed.

Because God reigns, we have the pleasure of being called His sons and daughters, accompanied by a lavishing of His love upon us.
Sweetheart, I can keep going on and on offering reasons why this celebration is in line, but I leave room for you to complete your own list. Just take a look at all the years leading up to this moment as you read this and confirm for yourself why you can rejoice because God has reigned, is reigning and will still reign in your life.

Remember # God reigns, and that’s something to shout over.
