Mark 7:20-21 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
Jesus must have had a fairly solid concern to address since he categorically drew a line between what makes one clean or unclean; between food and thoughts. His words draw our attention to a part of our beings which we often leave unattended hoping that without much work or intentional actions, they will align themselves right- our hearts and minds.
The state of our hearts ultimately determines the outputs that we produce and all processes begin with just one seemingly harmless thing: a thought. What we think about could be harmless but without censorship, our thoughts get bolder and can begin heading in directions that are dangerous to us as well as to others. From those thoughts can proceed all forms of malice.
Some actions such as a yawn on any day can pass as being ‘unintentional’, but jealousy, deceit, indecency: these cannot be by accident because they require forward thinking to successfully execute them. My dear, what we allow to be processed as part of our thoughts have a say on the things we end up doing.
Our prayer should thus be: ‘take my heart and let it be consecrated Lord to thee, take my moments and my days let them flow in ceaseless praise’. We can no longer allow our minds and heart to go on a roaming spree thinking unattended and desiring those things that can lead us astray. They need to be kept in check.
Remember # if you don’t check your thoughts, you will think your way into trouble.
