Acts 3:6 NKJV Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
This is one of the rather popular passages in scripture which most people have read or heard countless times and for different intents. Today, however, let’s shift our focus to the perspective of ‘having no silver or gold’ – a state we will describe as poor.
Sometimes, it takes the absence of silver and gold, as was the case of Peter, to realise that there are tokens that are weightier than money in our walk on earth. At least in that moment, the name of Jesus was proven to be a far superior token to silver and gold.
Therefore, it will be a misjudgement to say Peter and John were poor because they came with a currency that was far superior to money. Other tokens that will fit this criteria include ‘convictions and beliefs’, relationships, a good name, the Anointing, wisdom and understanding. These can obtain things that money can attain and even those things money cannot dare obtain.
By all means, don’t undermine the place of silver and gold, but don’t judge wealth solely from the lens of ‘silver and gold’ because there are tokens weightier than those. In truth, if all you can boast of is silver and gold, you are rather poor.
