John 7:1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him.
Jesus came to die – over the course of time, that has become a fact. However, it is important to clarify that He came to “lay down his life” and “not to be killed”. The two are not the same. The first comes with a capture of specified timelines, actions to be completed, lessons to be taught, and men to be made, then the cross.
The latter would have been a random action which would have achieved death, but it would thwart the entire purpose for His coming. Therefore, given that it was out in the open that
the Jews were seeking to kill him,
avoiding Judea was not because of fear or cowardice, it was wisdom.
If Jesus had gone on a tangent and said “I am here to die anyway so it doesn’t matter when and where”, the story of Salvation would have followed a very different script. Would the requirements of divine justice have been met without death on a cross? How would we have paid the prize for our sins in the current era? More burnt offering? Where will we do this and with what?
Both Mary and Elizabeth were to give birth to sons, but the manner is that one will have to conceive as a virgin and the other in her late years. Both achieved the intended purpose. So even though there may be a predefined outcome, the manner in which that outcome is achieved matters. Without the cross, the death of Jesus would not have achieved the intended purpose.
